comeback kid - monochrome
Instant chic can be acheived by layering different textures such as silk top with cotton slouchy pants or a white silk frill-layered/ruffled dress with cropped knitted cardigan or cropped polyester blazer. Accessorise with rhinestones and gold details.
Black and white basics should always be wardrobe staples. As time goes by, the monochrome pairing will modernise accordingly.
good ones won't fall flat
I've been coveting for one of these for far too long. And by a stroke of luck, I chanced upon this almost-delicious-enough-to-eat pair of ruched flats in deep auburn from SCHU.
I haven't been a fan of flats until recent. I wasn't bowled over by Mary Jane flats especially when it made its first appearance last year. Lanvin's ballerina flats aside, those on sale at Far East and Bugis Village were merely al cheapo wanna-bes. And I wasn't that gungho to allow a pair of poorly-made flats to kiss my feet all over with blisters. (Bizzare but true. Even flats can give me blisters if quality is as shite as arse.)
Candy-licking teeny-bopper girls may find those canvas/cardboard-made flats appealing (and very cheap). But I wanted a good pair of flats with character - one that doesn't says 'sloppy'. Because flats, unlike those 3-inch wedges, tend to make one look 'flat' if matched with already unappealing clothes. And it disgusts me to see girls who walk in a gauche manner when in flats.
Except for a pair of white ballerina ruched Mary Janes, I've stayed away from flats. I find the designs too boring. Of recent, perhaps in an resurgence of flats in the summer trend, more shoe shops have came up with more likable designs and wearable quality.
Patent leather is gaining popularity and I certainly agree that the patent makes the flats edgier. Instead of a patent leather flats could now become the crux of the look; the one outstanding piece. Details on flats are more exquisite now: a bow, a gold buckle, rhinestones. With the upspring more imported/franchised shoe brands, I'm just excited to see what more funny designs they would bring to the market.
Very often I need to walk the distance at exhibitions, performing my very obligatory sales and marketing task. With nine halls ahead of me, flats is a wiser choice. Canvas flats with pink podka dots is out of the question. So I keep looking for the right pair and now, I think the search is getting interesting already. =) Plus, if you're too tall for most guys, it's best to keep a few good pairs around for awkward first dates.
Speaking of which, I'm reminded of a situation which many girls encounter - new high-heels. How come some girls never learn? You don't wear a pair of new heels for the first time for an important event. That's almost suicidal! You've got to wear it out for a few times before that important date. I've been to so many events and I always see those PR girls shaking off their glossy patent heels the moment they step into the restroom.
"New heels? Wearing it for the first time?" I'd ask.
"Yah. I bought it specially for this event," they'd winced with pain.
"Stupid," I thought. Just an hour into the event and their feet are already crying out in pain. At this moment, I'd think fondly of my faithful Aldo pumps which has served me faithfully in countless work and play occasions. Two years in the run and still going strong. Definitely its 3-digit price tag.

little black dress
I shall dedicate my first post to the LBD. Audrey Hepburn had epitomised the Chanel black dress in her movie, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Thereafter the LBD has always been a perrenial classic piece which transcends through short-lived fashion trends. Nothing beats that one signature fabulous look for all women.
